For my boardgame to watch I checked out Bonsai! It was mostly just a colorful and cool atmosphere card game but one thing I really took from it was its art design. I tried to watch the video thinking about the game were developing called “Misery Angels” That will be a very very stark contrast from the art design of bonsai haha but i still think we can take elements they put forward and apply them to our work. For instance the beauty in the color of this game can represent the art and the life of growing a potted tree plant. Our game is all themed around spies and deception. I think dark rainy cities and think to myself how can I impart that onto a pl;ayer through art directions. What me and my group thought of was deep blacks with sharp red undertones and shading. And I just think that sounds amazing. The dark blacks contrasted by reds will give that tone of quiet built alluring. Our game is going well but it's proving to be a very difficult project and one thing learning bonsai hasn't helped out with is finding creative ways to design movement in a boardgame. It sounds simple enough but the key thing is i don't want it to be boring. The idea we currently have laid out is a collectathon but i already feel so in love and attached to this game i want it to be more. I know it can be more. The issue is I just don't know how to create more. Starting this class has been my first real in depth look into a board game ever since I played monopoly back in 5th or 6th grade. Something I think about is the idea Jason Schklar explains with “Removing The Suck” it sounds silly, but it's very helpful. Something with misery angels i want to produce is a true player experience. I really want a player to sort of, lose themself in this world. I want them to become fully immersed in our cities and our settings, and the best way to find out how to do that i think is like he says we need to playtest and “Remove The Suck.” what the suck may or may not be i do not know, but hopefully w with time we'll find it. For now! That's all.…
